Echocardiography Explained
Echocardiography is a test that uses ultrasound to assess the structure and function of the heart.
-
-
Preparation
There is no special preparation for echocardiography. You can eat, drink and take all your usual medications.
It is best to wear a two piece outfit for easy access to the chest area.
Please bring referral and Medicare, Pension and/or Health Care Cards to your appointment.
-
What happens during the procedure
You will need to remove your clothing from the waist up. Women will be given a gown to wear. You will need to lay on your left side or back if possible for most of time while an ultrasound of your heart is performed.
-
How long does it take
Approximately 30 minutes.
-
After Your Examination
You can go back to your normal activities.
-
Your images and report
A report will be sent to your referring doctor. PRP will store digital copies of all studies on our secure database for comparison with any future studies.
It is very important you return to your doctor to discuss your examination results.
